“I see a bad moon rising”

“Excellent, if not sobering, essay”:http://www.nybooks.com/articles/18113 about the current path of the United States. I hate to make light of the situation by comparing this plight to Star Wars, but I fear that somehow the machinations of power brokers have led us to this point in history, that the endless war of terror that appears to stretch out before us began not in the hovels of disarrayed malcontents but in the halls of great power and wealth.

I fear that we have been manipulated to trade our liberty for security, to support the increased militarisation of our society, and to believe that we must accept the slow but inevitable (and quickening) decline of our republic.

Our War on Terror is easily compared to the fictitious Clone Wars. Our Senate’s rousing applause for the Emperor President brings to mind the ominous words of Queen Amidala as her Republic drew its last breath:

“So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause…”

Please take the time to read the post linked above. I’d really hate to have to move to Tattooine.
